gated community

I live 1.5 hrs away from my airbnb. It is located in a small gated community.  No codes, no gate personnel,  everyone has to use a KEY to get through gate

I have instructions with pictures for guests to open mailbox (it has a smart lock) and then I have another real estate lock mounted to the wall of the mailbox where I put the actual key so the mailman doesn’t complain

Once they get the gate, it’s smooth sailing because I have a smart lock.

I had one guest (of 100+) have a meltdown that it’s too hard to get to the gate key. I don’t disagree.  But how do I make it easier? How do YOU deal with gate access.

@Helena722   We have a key box for guests to access the property, although it is not in a gated community.  We have always had five stars for the check in process with the exception of one guest, who like yours, had a total hissy fit for absolutely no apparent reason.  Perhaps she broke a lacquered nail trying to open it? I also think she expected us to roll out a red carpet, scatter it with rose petals and curtsy to her as she entered the door.  I think the set up you have is quite reasonable given the location and circumstances.  Perhaps dispensing with the need to access the mailbox first such as putting the key in a completely separate box at a different location (beneath?) might be the way to go but accept that this might not be possible.

in any case, if it is only the one guest who complained then I would be inclined just to let it go and not stress over it.
