Hi 

I’ve just hosted my first guest really lovely. However she said she left her key in the house , I gave her a lift to the station as I was heading into town anyway and again asked if she definitely didn’t have it . 

She couldn’t find it in her bag . I’ve searched at home and they are nowhere . I have messaged but this is my only set of spare keys . I’m going to have to pay for a set to be cut now.  I have asked her to mail them to me tomorrow so not sure what to do in these circumstances? 

Any advice .

Welcome to Airbnb! Guests losing keys is a common occurrence. You should have spares on hand as well as a change of locks so that when it happens you can swap out the locks quickly to prevent unauthorized access. This is one of the reasons many hosts use combination locks with easily changed codes.

Lost keys can be a real hassle, I'm a proper worry-wort about security so I went for keyless entry myself (plus I remote host a couple of properties, so had to come up with an easy way for guests to check in and out). Here are a few alternative options to the good old traditional lock and key:

1. Smart locks (each guest receives their own passcode to check in)
2. A lockbox or keysafe. 
3. Key exchange such as EveryDoor or Keycafe https://www.airgms.com/airbnb-key-exchange/
