In January and February airbnb withheld, as expected, hotel taxes for the state of illinois from all guests. But since April this has not been the case. Some guests were charged the tax and others not. airbnb clearly states they do not collect taxes on stays longer than 29 days, but that only applied to one of the bookings. This situation is very frustrating to me. I had lowered the room rate knowing that guest would be directly charged (instead of me paying part of the payout in taxes). But now I do have to pay taxes but on less income per night. What is the reason for the inconsistency?
