Hi
I recently started hosting in Walvis Bay, Namibia. My place is denominated in South African Rands (for obvious reasons).
With every payout there was R100.00 deducted, which I assumed was the bank charges for the transaction.
This week my bank started charging me R108.00 per transaction, additional. According to them, the R100 was deducted by the foreign bank.
Losing R208.00 on each transaction is causing this whole AirBnB experience to become more effort than it's worth.
Any suggestions?
That is exactly our problem as well at Salty Jackal in Swakopmund - resulting in us actually losing money for bookings of only one night! Did you come up with a solution?
Nope. I just charge a $208 "cleaning fee" to cover that.
Hi Alwyn
I expierience the same problem and some of the guest are South African aswell from namibia. But what i did not understand is the fact that the bank handle all transaction as its is a foreign transaction.Thank you for your suggestion about to increase the cleaning fee to 200 that will cover the bank charges.Any other suggestion about miss use the internet for examlpe download movies???
New issue I have is that Standard Bank increased their minimum forex fee to $382 which is just completely ridiculous when you have a booking of one or two nights. So now I would probably need to change banks just to keep this AirBnB profitable.
Wrt internet use, not really a problem for me. I have the uncapped MTC contract and I explain to the guests personally when I show the rooms no excessive internet use. It's also in my house rules on the listing profile.
Hi Alwyn
I think we need to consult with airbnb direct regarding the bank charges.A suggestion which i think is that they can make use of internet banking for the payment which needs to be done to our accounts.
Hi
Well I switched to FNB and their charges are only N$108 per transaction, which I can live with. AirBnB also has this new thing called Payoneer, or something like that, which apparently works great for forex.
