Aw I am sorry to hear you are no longer listing on Airbnb, I do understand your reasons. I know many hosts would recommend you to take a few bookings on Airbnb before activating Instant Booking, so it does sound like you were unfortunate here. If you explore the Community Center you will see that many hosts talk about the steps/questions they ask and things they inform their guests of before accepting their request. This enables them to build up a conversation before the booking. It does sound like this method is more along the lines of what you are looking to do.
