Finding a good cleaning service

Finding a good cleaning service

Hey guys - my bookings have started to pick up a bit and I'm looking to offload the cleaning once or twice a week. Any recomendations on what to look for in a cleaner? I'm a little nervous because I don't want to slip on quality, so I'm only going to use a service for maybe a booking per week.

My listing is in Atlanta, GA if that changes anything. Thanks in advance guys!

When I search for cleaners, I keep the following in mind...

First, I prefer cleaners that run their own small cleaning business rather than search for part-time/gig-workers. Small business owners in cleaning take their craft seriously and understand cleaning as a fine tuned skill. For example, if I search on craigslist, I prefer to find the cleaners who are advertising rather than posting an ad and getting responses. I don't waist time with people who are looking for a "side job", I usually find these kind of people don't show enough commitment and are not the most professional.

Second, I do everything I can to be a predictable customer. I have a clear checklist and a clear contract. I present the cleaner with all they need to know in order to make a well-rounded choice to take me on as a client. Once hired, I use software to communicate the cleaning schedule and I remove all confusion in communicating what needs to be done at all times. I do everything to be predictable. People that work for me appreciate this.

Finally, I create an environment that retains cleaners and keeps them accountable. First, I pay them fairly. If I'm dealing with a professional cleaner who takes their business seriously and they understand the importance of being reliable and punctual... I consider them a valuable part of my operation. Second, I hold them accountable to high cleaning & accommodation standards. It's important to correct mistakes as soon as you find them, always pointing back to your checklist and contract. Everyone appreciates this.

Getting cleaning and turnover operations right and finding others to take over cleaning without loss of quality is one of the more challenging parts of running a set of Airbnbs. But after several years I've come up with a good system to find and retain good cleaners.

Cheers!
