Gift Economy

Hello out there!

Has anyone else considered using the principles of the gift economy for room rentals?  I just did.  It's a risk and I am taking it.  For three years I have hosted the most lovely people.

With all the advertising lately, Airbnb is promoting some salty shoppers.

I would like to reverse the "search for a deal" mentality (some people look for quality experiences in their means, not trying to reverse that ) with the opportunity of a gift experience.  The reservation is $10 and the price is adjusted during the guest stay depending on their sense of gratitude, appreciation, and generosity in accordance with their conscience.

I have two rooms in my home listed the "normal" way with automatic book.  The gift room needs approval.  I'd like some feedback.

Any kind opinions, ideas, or suggestions?

Hi @Helen39 I hope you are well!

I just took a look at your "gift" listing.

The principle and sentiment behind what you're doing really is wonderful, well done for trying it out and seeing what happens.

I can't really imagine how it might work out for you and the logistics behind it- but I'd like to think the outcome would be positive, that you get good guests who understand what you're looking to do- and who do not take advantage of you 🙂

I don't know what kind of a reaction you'll get from other community centre hosts, but whatever their feedback I hope that it will be constructive!

Wishing you all the best,

Paul.
