My guest seems to have lost a set of keys, and I'm going to have to replace the lock on the door and get new keys duplicated. Do you guys know if you charge the guest for this, or AirBnB for this? Just want to check that I'm being fair getting either my guest or AirBnB to pay for it. He hasn't admitted to losing the key, but there is only one set in the apartment (I give my guests two sets) and when I've asked him where the other set is, he said he would ask his wife and then I haven't heard anything back even after sending him a couple more messages.
Instead of stressing trying to get the keys from the guest or charging them $xxx, look at this as an opportunity.
Now may be the time to spend a little more and get a code entry - no keys, no time and money spent getting duplicate keys, no hassle and no stress of administrating sets of keys.
Very good point Paul. I was going to get the lock changed to an electronic one with a keypad. Just wondering whether I can charge the guest for changing the lock. I may just end up paying for it myself, but wanted to see what other hosts think is the right thing to do.
