Hello. negative experiences with aggressive male guests.

I would like to chose women only for now . Can I do this? Because right now I'm having to decline enquiries. Please can you help advise me how to specify women only. Thanks

If you rent a room in your home you can set "female guests only" in your house rules.

As @Marit-Anne0 suggests, this is something for your house rules.

In my experience though, guests don't properly read, so some things have to be posted in different places to not be missed -

for example your Summary description, your description itself, and remember to not bury this important aspect further down in the text but have it 'in your face' at the top.

"Especially for Females...'

Assuming the laws are the same in the UK as they are in the USA,  if you live alone in the property or with another female roommate you can choose to discriminate on the basis of sex.  If you have a male roommate or husband, you cannot.  If you only want women, you need to make that 100% clear in your listing and in your House Rules.  But be aware of what laws you may be violating.  A simple internet search seems to say that you may be in violation of the Equality Act

"Women-only ads may be against the law unless it can be objectively justified," the EHRC says. "For example, it is usually justifiable for a domestic violence shelter to offer beds to only women or only men for their personal safety."

It's not clear what "objectively justified" means in this case with regards to your own personal property.

Hi @Caroline268:

Independent of any legislation, as you do not have the automatic booking active - congrats - you can choose before you accept a booking.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. Most of my guests have been male and they have all been delightful.

As others mentioned - if you are a female offering a room in your property  you can write this in your house rules, summary description and you can also write in your listing title.

Caroline....re negative experiences with men........Some of the best guests I have had were men. They are usually here on business and when they get in it is late. If I am in the home we chat briefly and off they go to their room. I have had a couple I have socialized with a bit over tea or dinner; none expected anything else.

That said, I had a request last week from a man who wanted to know about the parking situation...I answered his question and shortly after that he sent me a note and said he booked elsewhere but liked my looks and wanted to know if I would like to meet him...."uh, noooo"   I am considering this a "near miss." However, I am not giving up up on hosting men just because of a bad experience. My male guests have proven to be some of my best guests and are always neat, quiet, and tidy which is more than I can say for some women who have left makeup, hair, bath oil, etc. all over the bathroom floor, counters, and tub, and then personal notes of how I can better host. Men don't do that and they always bring their garbage downstairs upon leaving.
