So my cleaner just arrived at my house to find an absolute mess. Like they had a party or something... But a crazy hecking party. Someone urinated in the kitchen garbage can!!
There's garbage everywhere, water all over the floor etc... It's just disgusting.
Can I charge them for the extra cleaning? This is the first time I've had anything like this, what do I do now?
Yes! But do it before your next check in time. My check out is 11am. My check in is 3pm. Airbnb wouldnt help me as I raise the issue at 3:05pm as I spent al day cleaning to fix it ready for the next guest and I gave the next guest $15 to go and get a drink and they still wouldn't have it. Also, make sue you over estimate. If you estimate say $100 and it costs you $150, airbnb will only go for the original estimate.
Did you have to call in to support our did you just request money from the guests?
I did both. With airbnb if you ever need money from them or a guest you better have everything documented, double checked and pursue via every available means. Airbnb will do everything possible to protect the guest.
The good news is, airbnb banned parties globally yesterday so you might be able to use thathttps://news.airbnb.com/message-from-catherine-powell-to-airbnb-hosts/
Make sure you take lots of photos. Wide shots and close-ups - the more shocking+realistic the better. In order to get someone (guest or Airbnb) to pay, you will need evidence (proof or damage) and very clear documentation. Even then, it's a test of patience.... so I've been told.
I've never had to deal with damage like that...... just a problematic guest. But it was a frustrating experience because there was so little Airbnb could do to *make* the guest take responsibility for guest misbehavior - we are all just expected to *put up with it*.
@Linnea-Or-David0 From other posts here Airbnb don't allow claims for additional cleaning - It may be different if you have a receipt but don't rely on it.
Whilst you won't want to hear this you will have been lucky if its only extra cleaning.
Hope things go better with your next guests.
Document everything and raise the claim for the biggest amount you have on your security deposit Mine is 5k. Airbnb will do everything possible to avoid paying.
@Seth157 The amount you specify on your "security deposit" doesn't appear to be relevant to the results of the claim. Airbnb does not charge or hold an actual deposit, and the amount you input has no bearing on the outcome.
But "document everything" is the key - if you're going to get any reimbursement, it's going to be for irreversible physical damage, with receipts. And it will probably take at least a month to get a response at all.
@Linnea-Or-David0 What measures do you have in place to prevent this from happening again? Airbnb can't just bail out every host who can't keep control over their own property, so if you're handing your house keys over to a total stranger, it's crucial that you have the means to monitor who's entering it and the ability to remove troublesome users before things escalate to the point where someone's urinating in your kitchen.
@Linnea-Or-David0 To add to what @Anonymous was staying above. Yous listing is:
8 guests · 4 bedrooms · 4 beds · 2 baths = $102 (or $12.75 per person)
It may be a potential magnet to party animals. Ever consider raising the price?
@Anonymous when I called Airbnb they said that I can claim for extra cleaning fees. But, I've read many times how that process goes here...I just felt like I needed to do something you know? Sadly, because I requested extra money for cleaningscleaning has left me an awful review. As for what I'm doing... We've been discussing getting a doorbell camera for quite some time. It's time....
@Fred13 we would lose alot of good business if we raised our price. Our house is in a small Northern Manitoba city that really doesn't have alot of draw. Most people coming here are just trying to get out of the city or they're coming for work. Can't really justify charging more around here. But, I do charge extra for extra guests!! 🙂
@Anonymous @Fred13 and others... Hers the review that she left right after I asked for extra cleaning funds. I know I asked a little high, but in our discussions I did ask many times "so what do you think is fair", but she made it very clear that she felt the $35 was more than enough for our cleaner.
What would be your advice? Should I reply to it, report it and hope it's removed, or ignore it?
@Linnea-Or-David0 I would respond to that review. Just the facts. The guest left a disaster behind them and refused to pay for the extra cleaning required.
Keep in mind that your response will appear on your review page, not the guest's, so you are just clarifying the situation for future guests reading the review. I doubt you'd have luck getting it removed, as it doesn't violate any review guidelines.
Is this guest Bhad Bhabie, the "meet me outside" girl from Dr. Phil? The command of the English language says it all... "they gonna ask..." and "you just angry". Safe to say, this guest won't be accepted anywhere else.
Probably helpful to have this review. You'll scare off unwanted guests and attract responsible guests with your other 31 reviews.
Although I guess this doesn't apply with this guest, I shoot video of my guest suite before each guest checks in, just in case they break something and try to claim that it was already broken. I also speak before the camera, stating the date, all in one continuous shot.
