I am a new host I supply Linen and towels etc, but on occasion the changeover is quick so It is difficult to get in and redo the linen
Do any hosts ask guests to strip and remake beds?
making beds is very time consuming, we do it ourselves but I've heard some host ask their guests to strip the beds. I don't like when guests do it because it is harder for me to spot the stains.
We have 3-4-5 hours min time window for changeovers , it is tight but we manage to do it. Maybe you could set earlier check out and later check in so you give yourself some more time.
Hi @Ralston1, asking to strip and remake a bed(s) would be a BIG ASK, in my view. They're paying for the room, right? Not being paid to do "maid service." Plus, if they do a crummy job of making the new bed for your next guest, you will probably hear about it... not worth the risk.
Best,
Might be better to ask for an earlier check out and/or later check in.
Personally I wouldn't want to change dirty sheets if I was a guest. It would put me off booking.
May be acceptable to strip the beds your self and leave the clean sheets for guests to make up beds themselves.
Forget that, I'd never ask a guest to do that. Imagine flying in or a long drive only to be greeted with a bed you have to make up yourself. No thanks. It sounds like a timing issue to me. I've got up to three beds that need changing and the two hours between noon and 2pm is plenty of time to wash and dry everything. Plus I've got a spare set for each room just in case someone needs an early check in.
In my check-out instructions I state:
It would be appreciated if you started the dish washer before leaving and start a wash for all the soiled towels and linen, this will help with a turnover for guests arriving the same day, but I understand if you are in a rush.
I have never had a complaint or even a comment and if they have a problem with it they just don't do it.
Some hosts have guests strip the beds, I wouldn't ask them to remake or make them up though.
We started specifically telling our guests NOT to strip the beds, though some do anyway, because we found that then everything was thrown on the floor including the decorative pillows and the comforters...so easier to do ourselves the way we like it done.
I much prefer stripping the bed myself.... It's easier to spot any stains that need attention.
We also have 3 sets of sheets etc for each bed. So, with every changeover, there are freshly laundered sheet sets all ready to go.... no need to waste time doing the laundry until after the room is made up.
@Ralston1, I prefer to strip and make the bed myself - then I can see any stains and make sure beds are made up properly. I also think it would be a lot to ask guests to do this. HOWEVER, I see that your accommodation is VERY cheap, so stripping/making beds could just be the price your guests pay for such cheap accommodation. If this is the way you want to go, make it extremely clear on your listing that guests will have to do this. Otherwise, I suggest raising your prices and having an earlier checkout/later check in to give you more time to do the turnaround.
I would never ask a guest to strip the bed. Henry and I prefer to handle bed sheets and cover changes ourselves, and also do laundry ourselves-not everyone knows how to do laundry or make beds properly, and we have a preferred way of doing things. Also, we'd want to check the condition of the bedding to make sure there aren't any stains.
Honestly though, I wouldn't ask my own parents or sisters or friends who stay over to change the sheets or start the laundry..... let alone paying guests.
I ask all guests to "clean up after themselves" and be reasonably tidy (= don't be a messy slob). I also have a list of basic etiquette rules..... but I wouldn't expect the guest to be responsible for anything related to a turnover for the next guest.
As a guest user, I've always cleaned up after myself, even in hotels, and at an Airbnb I would draw the line at taking out the trash at the end of my stay.
