How to remove requirement for verified ID

How to remove requirement for verified ID

Hi, can you please help me remove the requirement for verified ID?  I saw a previous suggestion to uncheck the box on the Listing page under "Reservation Requirements" but that box is already un-checked.  Thanks! 🙂

Hi, @Sabena0. I cannot tell whether you have Instant Book on or not, since your listing isn't showing yet. Guests have to have phone number, profile photo, email address and payment information no matter what. That is what I think of as verified ID. But if you mean government-issued ID, and you are going with Instant Book, go to Dashboard -> Your Listing -> Calendar and More -> Booking -> Additional Requirements. If Government-Issued ID is unchecked, you will have removed the requirement for that. You cannot remove the requirement for the other four things. Hope I have answered what you were asking.

Hi Lawrene, thanks so much for taking the time to reply.  The listing is in my partner's name, Wendy, and is Seascape Beach House at Boat Harbour Beach.  We do have instant bookings.  I've tried your suggestion from my log in but am not able to do it (possibly as I'm not the host) so shall get Wendy to try.  Most appreciated! 🙂

Hi Lawrene, thanks again for your reply, you've helped us sort our challenge!  Wishing you all the best 🙂

@Sabena0 I am curious about your thought process...according to many people here, verified ID is the cat's meow. How did you come to add it and now what has caused you to want to delete it?

Hi Scott, good question!  We added verified ID (as in government ID) cos we had instant book and wanted to give some security over who booked.  However we've had a couple of people who have had trouble adding their government ID and one person who didn't want to be bothered (but looked OK on their profile) and didn't book with us.  So we were concerned about losing business, so thought maybe to remove that requirement - and also to remove instant booking, so that we could check people's profile first before booking them in.

However - I'm really interested in your thoughts that verified ID is the way to go, as we're still weighing up which way to go - so I really appreciate your taking the time to comment 🙂

My thoughts on verified ID is that it is oversold. Since AirBnB apparently will not divulge the actual verified ID information to hosts. The best way for host who really want to know who is staying is to NOT have verified ID buy put in house rules that guest must show Government ID at check in host will record the ID information.

My listing is in a secured building with on-site security and there are minimal items of value that could be stolen/damaged so I do not use Verified ID AND have self-check in. So far so good.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for your thoughts.  Someone else had suggested checking ID on check-in, but we didn't want to surprise people, so I like your idea of adding that to the house rules - thanks very much.

Cheers,  Sabena

Hi @Scott80, if you have self check-in, who looks at the ID when they check in? I give guests a door code so they can check in anytime after a check-in time so that I don't have to hassle with meeting them, so just wondering how to work that in with getting ID info.
