Lodging in Gent, Belgium close to Dampoort train station

I strongly advise all DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING INTO THIS NEIGHBORHOOD.  Esther is sweet, the home is fine, BUT THE AREA pretty as is, IS DEADLY.  On November 15, 2017 at 3 PM on the 7 min. walk from the home to the train station, I was blocked on Dampoortstraat by two burly bandits with a third accomplice who picked me as the target and robbed me of some $950.  BON'T DO IT!!!

@Peter635  I am so sorry you had this terrible experience.  You are a very experienced world traveler and I am wondering why you are posting this "warning" on this site.  Potential guests will not likely see this post.  When you review the experience, I would imagine you will include something about this experience in your review.

I am sure you are a sophisticated traveler and perhaps you have learned something about your choice of listing that can help other travelers avoid what happened to you.  Thoughts?

@Peter635

Hello,

Do you have any experience with renting out through Airbnb ?

I heard that you have to register your apartment through Tourism Vlaanderen if you want to rent out In Bruges. Do you know if this is really necessary ?

What if I am officially living in the place and I just want to rent a part of it? Like a room or something. Is that allowed ?

Thank you in Advance

Leon

Hello @Leon118

I guess you found this post through the search box, as it's an old post from November 2017.  Peter635 was a traveller from New York, so I doubt he knows anything about the law concerning rentals in Belgium!

- I would advise you to make LOCAL enquiries where you live; ask your local town council, or other hosts, or Google the info! Good luck!
