Occupancy taxes appear to be calculated incorrectly

Occupancy taxes appear to be calculated incorrectly

I was just turned down by a potential renter as they claimed my city, Palo Alto, added 25% occupancy tax. I just checked the airbnb site and they claim it's only 14%. In my listing it doesn't actually show the final calculation (which would be nice AirBnb....) so I'm stuck in algorithmic limbo.

As there is no way to see the potential taxes on a guests renta I can't track down this discrepancy. The only solution appears to be to have a friend try to rent my place and send me the quoted rate. I'm not opposed to paying property taxes but I don't want to loose renters because it's calcuated incorrectly!

How do I add the TOT to my listing

Scott - We're also in Palo Alto, and also in similar straights ... do let us know if you've figure this out!

My guess would be that your potential guest is mistaken. The “fees” were probably 24%, 14% occupancy tax and 10% Airbnb charges.

Got it - thank you!
