Im trying to cancel a reservation (maintenance issue) I get to the last step and it keeps saying 'there was an error processing your request' and it will not let me cancel the reservation. I need to cancel and the the guest his money back! Is anyone familiar with this issue?

You haven't said if you are trying to perform this cancellation from your computer or via the phone app but, which ever I suggest you are having a browser issue and it is time you refreshed your browser.
Problems such as you are experiencing are a result of not properly logging out of the site after each session and the page eventually closes due to inactivity!
What is happeing is you request to cancel is proceeding to a certain point via your cookies using your computers stored information rather than retrieving it from the internet. The computer/app becomes lazy!

I would recommend you to try either Firefox/Chrome on a desktop / laptop
(You could be experiencing mobile browser issue)

I would also advise you to clear the browsers cache:
Doing this will not harm your computer or loose and of your computers information....it is just a wise bit of housekeeping to do every now and then.
If you are using the mobile app I would suggest you log out, delete the app and re-install using this link.

I had the impression that with last minute cancellations, it would not be possible to perform the cancellation on-line and one would have to contact airbnb ?
