Rules on Tax Deductions

Hello helpful Airbnb hosts. I have a house which I live in. It has a basement apartment which I rent. The mortgage interest and property taxes are for the house with basement included. I figure I can deduct part of these as an expense for the basement but how much?

Hi @Bruce8 none of us are tax consultants so we can't give advice.  Publication 527 covers vacation rentals income and deductions....it's very complicated, unfortunately.  You should hire a tax prep person or use software such as Turbo Tax or H & R Block.
