My first potentially problematic guest has been here less than an hour and I can just tell. So far she's:
Showed up later than SHE said.
Parked in the wrong place.
SHOCKED there were dogs.
Asked me to take her bags upstairs.
Upset bathroom was downstairs.
Surprised we live here!
Left the gate open.
Wondering if I should just ask her to leave now.
I can usually tell when someone hasn't read anything and decline them. This one slipped thru somehow.
It seems like a matter of respect to fully read the listing description, and certainly to the guest's benefit as well as the host's, but the truth is that some people are simply not very intelligent.
@Paige73, be careful with a lower price. More times than not you'll get a lower quality guest. Please, for the sake of us hosts not having to worry about you, just raise your price to at least $25!
I love my artists, students and travelers! My other listing makes money. This listing is to open my home and myself to fascinating people. I literally decline people who don't seem interesting. I totally get what you mean though. I just wouldn't want to price out the people I'd want as guests. My other listing is for people traveling on business etc. That one is priced alot higher.
I can say most of the guest don’t read description and house rules carefully. They just want to look for cheap accommodation. I have a guest last week, he told me that he can do self check in and wish to check in at 2pm. I gave him all the information, location and check in guide. Told him he can check in at 2pm after I clean the room. But you know what, he txt me at 2.20pm and ask me “where is the lockbox”. I’m in meeting with my boss and immediately need to reply him and teach him how to use check in guide. Omg he don’t know how to tap on “start check in”. He frustrated and keep sending me a lot of msg, in the end I have to call him and teach him how to use the check in guide for self check in..
@Joe492 I hate that! To me it says "my time is way more important than yours". We should give an "easy guest" discount.
That's it, @Paige73, I have put you in my wishlist though I am unlikely to go to America in the forseeable future. I love that you decline people who don't seem interesting, well done. If I do enquire, I promise to do my best to be accepted 🙂
Haha! Would love to have you!
Your Pip is amazing! I really love the decor. It's like a little fairy cottage in the woods!
Well she's gone now. I haven't seen the room yet. She wanted to book again for next week. It's booked already, but she thought she could stay in the other guestroom (on the third floor where she had no business being, so don't know how she even knows about it). So I'm thinking the review won't be terrible. As she was leaving, a guy doing some electrical work in a cherry picker was blocking the driveway. She just leans into the horn! I apologized to him and told her to wait. Aaaah!!! Some people! Thanks y'all for letting me vent! And for the useful advice as always!
