Should reviews be compulsory?

Has any host with held a review rather than give a negative one?

Would it not be a better system to show how many times a requesting guest has used Air BnB so that the host can see if reviews have been with held? I have just had a troublesome guest not leave me a review presumably because he thought that mine would be negative and by with holding his, mine would not be available for public view.  I would hate another host to have their place treated the way mine was by this person but how to get it out there? I am only a newbie but there does seem to be alot of requesting guests out there with out any reviews at all.  I ask if they have used this way of booking before but only have their word for it if they say No.

How am I to know if they are telling the truth?

Help us out Air BnB please.

Reviews are "blind", you cannot see each other's reviews until both are posted.

@Wendy20 Yes, what @Marit-Anne0 says is correct, however, if one party leaves a review and the other doesn't, the review will be pubic after 14 days.  I had a guest not leave me a review, but I had reviewed her.  Her review became public after 14 days.

As far as witholding reviews to avoid a negative one, well, that's not helping the Airbnb community.  Each host owes it to other hosts to leave a short review if the guest is undesirable.  My benchmark for a negative review is whether I would want the guest to come back or not. If not, then it's a negative review, the severity of which depends on the circumstances.
