Hey guys,
I have a couple of guests staying with me in East Village, Manhattan. On the day of their arrival, a crew of construction workers started working on the street and sidewalk outside our apartment building. The bedrooms face the street. The crew are using jackhammers and the sound is extremely loud - they start around 8AM.
I did not know that the gas pipes on my street were about to get an overhaul, nor do I have any idea when they will be gone. Because of this, I was not able to notify the guests prior to check in. They haven't approached me about it either, but I have been generally apologetic.
This is the first time this has happened to me, and I feel bad for my guests. They have not complained, but if I were in their shoes, I'd be vexed. How can I approach the situation? I'd appreciate other suggestions than giving them a discount, although that is of course something I am considering.
Any suggestions, insights, experiences are gratefully received. Thank you
