TV's

In my shared house, I do not offer TV.

My reasons are

1. I can offer a more inexpensive room

2. Most people, expecially young people, can watch TV on their computer.

3. I don't want people lounging in my house. I want them out sight seeing.

4. I don't want to risk having to tell them to keep it quiet after 10pm.

Those of you who offer TV, do you have problems like annoying noise in your house?

All hotels offer TV, so I'm thinking  I should too.

I added a TV to my listing after going for a long time without having one.  No problems at all so far and the guests really appreciate it.  I intentionally bought a very small TV (17") which really doesn't lend itself to a long-term immersive experience.  I also have it hooked up to one of the older-model Roku devices.  This is great because the Roku allows you to listen to the audio from the TV via earbuds/headphones for late-night TV watching.  So far, I haven't actually heard the TV at all!  I think it's nice for the guests to have the option to watch TV in the event of bad weather or for downtime in the evenings.  I've never had the issue of people staying in just to watch TV (granted, I am located in NYC).  I can understand why you might not want it though depending on your location.  Not having a TV wouldn't deter me from booking as a guest.

Hi @Paul154.  You have over 230 reviews from guests which suggest to me that you know more than I do about hosting!  But you asked so I will share my experience.

I have a shared home as well and personally never had a tv in the general living area in any house.  I currently have a small tv in each of the Air BNB bedrooms and slightly larger with DVR in my bedroom.

I have never had a problem with any guest lounging around to watch tv but I do know that they watch, usually the news.

I agree that younger guests often use their phone to watch something they are interested in, but the older crowd seems to like the tv.

We have a large TV in the living room and also a smaller one in the guest bedroom. We've never had a problem with guests lounging around. Most of them appreciate having a TV at night to relax and watch a movie or TV show. Noise has never been an issue.

Thank you all for your illuminating help.

I do appreciate your experiences.

I will try putting in a TV. I guess I can always take it out if noise becomes a problem
