So this morning, my one nighters ask if they could bring a friend over.
I said sure.
Friend took a shower!
Then they left at 12:20, causing me stress for my guests to arrive.
They did NOT leave a tip for the extra service.
I know tips are not usual for owners, but it sucks.
Airbnb has got us jumping for "Stars"!
Screw that - I want cash.
Does anybody have luck receiving cash tips?
A gentle sign? "Tips for extra service appreciated?" " Tips show my housekeeper your appreciation" ?
In a restaurant, I leave 18-25%
With Uber I leave two dollars.
How can we get Airbnb to support giving tips for good service?
Personally, I think asking for tips in an industry that's primarily "non-tip" is pretty tacky. I would never do it and if I were a guest and my host "gently asked" for tips, I'd definitely downgrade their review.
Depends where you are, I would thing outdside the US not normal, inside the US seems to vary, I used to get left something quite often when I first started but it has been a long time since the last one.
You are the business owner with three properties you generate income from. Not a minimum wage member of staff.
It's up to you to manage your business so you don't get taken advantage of. Don't let guests stay beyond check in time and don't let their guests take showers.
If you want to reward your cleaner, then you can give her/him a bonus.
I don't think barging in while bathing would bring me 5 stars 🙂
Neither will asking for tips
