Hi ! I have this problem. It has been over 24 hours since questioning airbnb to explain it to no avail. An 'average fee ' or 'overall fee 'would be an appropriate explaination if airbnb didn't individually itemize and charge the extra fees on top seperately (such as the cleaning fee and service fee).
The screenshots are from a discouraged guest . Proof of extra charges that airbnb have not yet explained. A screenshot of the correct charges on the 'quote screen' and a screenshot of the 'payment screen' in which everything has a few unexplained extra dollars charged, added to all of : the nightly rate, the cleaning fee, and the service fee.
I have no extra charges except for the cleaning fee which is itemized seperately on both the 'quote' and the 'payment' screens. I don't have smart pricing on, and and I have set every night at the exact same price no matter what the date. But they add just under $1 per night to every night on only the 'payment screen' with no explaination- the cleaning fee and service fee are still being charged separately on top as well with extra charges added to them also.
Airbnb are giving my potential guests the correct price in the 'quote screen' then adding unexplained costs to every item when clicked through to the book and make 'payment screen'. Not much is added (a few dollars to each night, a few dollars to the cleaning fee, and a few dollars to the service fee)but these extra little amounts between 'quote' to 'payment' are unexplained and not the prices that I set.
what I want to know is:
What are these extra costs for? How are they decided? Who gets these extra few dollars charged on top of the set prices made by hosts? Aren't hosts responsible for choosing the nightly rate and their cleaning fee?
Is your guest paying in NZ dollars? Maybe it is the conversion rate from their currency.
Thankyou for your reply. Yes I had thought of this too and forgot to mention it,... but if you click on each screenshot, under the total, both the quote screen and the payment screen are in NZD ($NZ Dollars). So there was no conversion to a different currency between screens. ? So confused!
@Susan623, I can't remember what my screen said when I traveled to Norway but there was a 3% conversion fee added (which was noted on the bottom of my invoice) so I paid a few dollars more than the listing. The screen may be misleading in not really explaining that. Where is your guest from?
Hmmmm ok this could be it !as it is around 3% extra charged! And from South Africa.
but I still feel the extra charge( if it is a conversion fee) then it must be incorrectly displayed on the payment screen right? As I don't understand why it isn't itemized seperately and charged clearly? And I also don't understand why this isnt charged at all on the previous 'quote screen'.
By adding it on to each night's rate and onto the cleaning fee(the hosts' set charges ,and not just the total amount) does that then mean the extra goes to the host? It still doesnt make sense to me! If there is a conversion charge at 3% shouldn't that be a separate charge and be 3% of the total bill ?
I just don't see a reason why my set nightly rate of $35 should ever be charged at anything other than $35.
By charging $35.95 per night- it seems then the extra 95c charge is from the host and it is very unclear where the extra charge is coming from, what is is for , and who it is going to. $35.95 is a 2.7% extra charge per night. the total of $910.42 is 3.339% extra charge on the original total of $881. Very confused. Need it explained how this is worked out!
