I have a Strick policy on cancellations My guest has 1 more month in their stay but sends me a request to alter reservation to move out today If I accept the change does that effect my cancellation policy? Should I just tell them to cancel the reservation?

Do NOT accept a reservation alteration for this guest. He will need to cancel the stay if leaving early and as @Helen3 says, he will be refunded depending on the circumstances of the remain days he cancelled and your cancellation policy for long term stays.
Airbnb applies a different cancellation policy for stays 28+days than your standard cancellation policy. Hopefully you set that when creating your listing:
Click the Cancellation Policy square on the Listing Editor and another window will appear on the right showing your standard cancellation policy (less than 28days) and what you have set for 28+ days:

If your guest has one more month to stay then they are on airbnb long term cancellation policy not your strict policy. @Patricia3993

Dont accept the amendment request let the guest know if there arrangements have changed they would need to cancel the booking and their cancellation will be processed under the long stay cancellation policy they booked under

I did figure out not to accept request to change reservation. I am not clear about the month to month not being covered as strict non cancellation
