Air Cover Denied

Hi there I had this guest stay for a month the. She refused to leave and stayed for another month after she finally checked out I filed an AirCover claim of nearly $6k and Airbnb denied it because it was filed 14 days after the checkout.

i told them the guest was mentally unstable and constantly threatening to kill herself. Half way through the second month I found out she was going to jail so I figured to appease her and not push her because she was clearly unstable and suicide would have been way worse.

Airbnb is being totally unfair avoiding to payout over such an extreme technicality. This is totally unfair.

further the booking was originally made by her father who then refused to extend the booking. He lied saying his daughter was going to school nearby when she was mentally unstable, an extreme alcoholic and was just waiting out her jail reporting date.

what are my course of action here.

I am sorry you had such an awful experience.

It's  a difficult one. You aren't meant to accept third party bookings.

Your solution when the father refused to extend the booking would have been to evict the guest at the end of her booking rather than let her stay for a further month when you knew the father wasn't extending the booking. I appreciate your concerns around her mental health but as the host you also need to think about your STR business.

I am confused having decided to let her stay why you didn't file the claim straight away when she didn't pay after the first months stay.

I am not sure there is any further action you can take.

You should also not be afraid to take Airbnb to arbitration either.  Even if they deny your claim.

I just had damages done by a mentally ill person to the tune of $25K and airbnb denied me with every excuse in the book.  Took them to arbitration and won.

Aircover is a truly deny, deny, deny process in hopes you give up.
