Airbnb host bed bugs

Airbnb host bed bugs

Me and my friends booked a stay

in Calgary Alberta. The home we’ve been staying at the host has given us issue after issue firstly being him asking for all of our drivers licenses when we are verified Airbnb guests. Secondly when we got to the Airbnb the freezer was leaking and the drains in the washrooms were filled with hair and clogged. The host told US to clean it out and was persistent about his “professional cleaners” doing such an amazing job cleaning the Airbnb. There were thick sheets of dust on kitchen counters. The washroom mirrors had yellow and brown stains on them from god knows what. And he kept saying that his previous guests were there for 3 months and had no issues. To top this all off on our 4th night one of us discovered a bed bug crawling on his bed and he came down to show us. We took video and photo proof as well as pictures of bed bug bites on 2 of my friend’s arms. The host accused us of lying and the team at Airbnb told us they can’t confirm whether the literal bedbug is one or not and the bites aswell. I’ve never had such a horrible experience with an Airbnb let alone an Airbnb host. I’d stay as far away from ANY host that has a review saying they’ve had bed bugs. I’ll be sure to leave a review on this “super hosts” profile and please be sure to double check your hosts reviews before staying in their home.

@Shoaib27 I'm really sorry to hear about your experience—what you and your friends went through sounds incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. Cleanliness, safety, and basic respect from a host are non-negotiables, and it's disappointing when any guest is made to feel dismissed or blamed.

You did the right thing by documenting the issues with photos and videos. It's unfortunate that the response you received wasn’t more supportive, especially when it comes to something as serious as bed bugs. I agree—checking host reviews thoroughly is key, and experiences like yours are exactly why honest reviews are so important for future guests.

I hope Airbnb follows up appropriately and that your next stay is a much better one. No one should have to deal with this kind of situation. Thanks for speaking up—it helps the whole community stay informed.
