I am absolutely disgusted with Airbnb. What should have been a simple stay in Las Vegas has turned into a nightmare after discovering BED BUGS. While my host has gone above and beyond to try to help, Airbnb itself has been nothing short of incompetent, unorganized, and downright negligent.

Every single customer service agent I’ve spoken with has contradicted the last, each giving me different “steps” to take. I’ve been forced to submit endless “evidence” while the actual decision is left entirely up to some faceless, out-of-touch Airbnb team that has no stake in this situation. Meanwhile, I was told to vacate immediately, pay out of pocket for a hotel, and — unbelievably — that I am barred from booking another Airbnb for THREE DAYS. I am now out thousands of dollars with absolutely no guarantee of reimbursement, since Airbnb reserves the right to simply decide that this infestation “doesn’t count.”

To make matters worse, my daughter has called multiple times on my behalf, simply trying to gain clarity on what steps I should be taking. Airbnb has flat-out refused to disclose any information to her, even as I’m in the middle of my work day, scrambling to deal with their failures. Their lack of communication and transparency is outrageous.

And their so-called “solution” is laughable. They advised me to run ALL of my clothes through a high-heat dryer for 30 minutes. I just moved across the country with thousands of dollars in professional work attire — items that cannot be thrown in a dryer without being ruined. Their careless, one-size-fits-all instructions could easily destroy my belongings, costing me even more. And when I begged for urgency, I was told I might hear back “by the end of the day,” as though I have the luxury of putting my life and job on hold while they drag their feet.

This entire process has been appalling, disorganized, and utterly thoughtless. Airbnb has proven that they do not care about their customers, their wellbeing, or their livelihoods. I am now left financially, emotionally, and professionally burdened because of their incompetence.

This is absolutely disgusting. I will NEVER use Airbnb again, and I will make it my mission to warn everyone I know about this disgraceful excuse for a company.

Did you cancel the booking and did the host agree to a refund?

Yes, the booking has been canceled and refunded. 

Just an update here- they will not pay to put my mom up in a hotel, but instead are giving her $170 to help “cover” the $700+ difference she now has to pay out of pocket. This is absolutely absurd. My mom is now out hundreds of dollars, missed a day at work, has bed bug bites in addition to the UNMEASURABLE mental toll this has taken on her first week of work after having moved cross country. What a horrible customer experience.
