Booking for adult family trip

I plan to book for an adult family trip, possibly using a small AirBnb credit as well.  My schedule sometimes calls me in to office unexpectedly so I may be delayed in getting there by a day.  Is the rest of my family allowed to check in?

@Tina13055,

I agree with Joan2709 and I recommend asking your other family members to create their own Airbnb Profiles then adding them to your reservation.

Why?

So that they are able to contact/communicate with the Host and with Airbnb in case they have any questions, concerns or issues while YOU are away/unavailable. Example, they cannot locate your property, or they lock themselves out.

Technically yes...but you should message the Host and advise them that you may not be able to check-in on the first day of the reservation. Additionally, you are responsible to ensure all guests staying abide by the House Rules on the listing and you would be responsible for communicating check-in instructions for the rest of the group (door code, parking, etc.).

Keep in mind that if you are not able to be present at all during the stay, that is considered a 3rd party booking and is contrary to Airbnb policies.

Excellent points!

That would work perfectly! I always thought by listing them as guests on the trip it did that..but now I know!

@Tina13055 Great question — and I’ve actually had a few guests in similar situations.

As others have said, it’s totally fine for your family to check in without you as long as you let the host know in advance. Communication is key. Most hosts will appreciate the heads-up and will be happy to coordinate with you to ensure a smooth check-in for your group.

In my experience, it also helps if your family members have their own Airbnb accounts — that way, if there’s an issue or they need to message the host directly, they can do so without going through you.

Just make sure to share any important info (like door codes, parking details, or house rules) with your group before they arrive.

Wishing you a wonderful family trip — sounds like it’ll be a fun one! 😊
