I'm so frustrated as both a host and a traveler that the search by categories is no longer available. Why or why remove that feature?!
We host a glamping site - so folks found us when they wanted to camp. I've noticed my bookings through Airbnb are fewer this year than by other platforms such as Hipcamp.
As a traveler, I specifically enjoy staying in treehouses - I am planning vacation now and am unable to find treehouses. I'll have to use a different platform or just search the internet for websites and book directly.

Hi, thank you for sharing your feedback with us on the recent update!
Airbnb has changed the homepage to make Experiences and Services available right upfront in the Airbnb app, and this new look enables the app to be more personalized for users. The search filter will now suggest homes, experiences and services nearby, in a destination that you’re booked to go to next. Airbnb will serve more relevant suggestions that are personalized for each guest. Guests will still be able to use filters to search for homes with specific amenities including pools, a waterfront location or accessibility features.
If you think certain filters would be valuable to add, such a treehouse or glamping as a type of property, you can let the team know directly using our feedback form: https://www.airbnb.com/help/feedback
Thanks,
Emilie

I agree with this wholeheartedly as well. I live in a city area close to Shenandoah national park and we often like to go out and stay in a nice cabin for r&r. We like the A-frame styles as they tend to be a little newer and we love the views a A-frame allows with all the windows. I also really liked the "chef kitchen" category as I love cooking so a great kitchen when using Airbnb was important to me. And in the winters we often used the "cabin" category as we wanted something cosy and with a fireplace. Luckily I have so many places saved on Wishlists - but still - losing categories was a huge loss! Bring it back!
just found out about this change the hard way, as i was trying to find "design" lodging during my next trip. this is what happens in the modern age: someone who has no definable skill, is in a high-level position and when the pressure is on, they have to justify their paycheck and say "it's time for a re-design"
- "it's simper"
- "more streamlined"
- "the most used thingies are now on the landing page"
when the reality is, it looks the exact same, only now it places "experiences" and "services" on the front. i'm very sad and frustrated with this change. those categories were so convenient. This is just like when they made the movie Battleship, based off a board game we played as kids in the 90s. No one was asking for it in the first place.
I couldn’t agree more! I used to find Airbnb’s by looking at the categories for what I was looking for. I.e. treehouse, unique, camping, etc. Now that I can’t search by the type of Airbnb I want, only the location, I’m not using it anymore. Sometimes when I’m traveling, I don’t have a specific location in mind so it’s not like I can just pick a location and then click on every single one. Absolutely not. AIRBNB BRING BACK CATEGORIES!!!!!
Absolutely agree, removing categories was a huge mistake. They were the best way to discover unique stays, and now it’s frustrating and time-consuming to find anything special. If they won’t bring the bar back, at least add a permanent “Explore by Theme” filter so we can actually browse properly again.
I can not find one place that is unique!!!! Only reason I used this!!! How awful to do to the community that MAKES bnb survive.
Want to add another comment about how disappointing this is. Another Microsoft like move. Update UI to attract forever September users, pulling the rug from underneath their current user base. I will instead search google for hours to replicate this lost feature and book through VRBO or others.
I cant agree more! I just went to try and search for yurts and was surprised to see they removed this feature. What a shame. I dont even know how to find what I'm looking for now.
I agree. I am super disappointed. My family plans on taking a bit trip during the summer of 2026 and without the search categories, I am not sure I will be even bothering with Airbnb.
Just booked with Vrbo because of this. Airbnb you lost me as a customer
