I hosted a couple  recently and mistakenly thought that "Francois" was the wife (there was no portrait photo). Therefore I wrote in the review "Francois and her husband" etc. When the two reviews were posted I received the following message; "Thank you for your comment. But I am not gay: not François and husband but François and wife, please correct.|" I apologised and said I couldn't change the review but would contact Airbnb support and request they  change "husband" to "wife". Airbnb wrote back and the only "change" they will allow is to delete the review completely. I think this is unfair to the guest as it was my mistake. I would be interested if anybody knows of Airbnb allowing a change in a review. I am now omitting any names or assumptions about relationships in my reviews and simply writing along the lines of "A pleasure to host. Always welcome back".

Hello @Tommy235

How unfortunate for you and it goes to show why having a real photo on the profile is so important!!  Once both reviews have been published you can't modify them unless you choose to delete the review completely as Airbnb CS have said.

You have apologised and you can put it down to a cultural mis-understanding as the first name François has it's very common female version Françoisand if you are not French you wouldn't necessarily know this especially if he didn't post a photo!

I'm hoping that the messages between the two of you were in the Airbnb messaging system so it will have no visible effect for future guests but you're right, the less said the better re names etc😉

We live and learn!

All the best

Joëlle ( male version of the first name = Joël)😁

You've done what you can, but the guest and clarify the mistake on a reply to your review.

Oops - I guess the only thing you can do is offer to the guest to remove the review. @Tommy235 I would think they would be happier to keep the review but who knows.

They opted for removing the review in the end. Thanks for the comments. Tommy
