Gift Card Problem

It is outrageous that I purchased a gift card for someone in the Europe and I reside in the US and despite Airbnb saying the gift card is "usable all over the world," he cannot use it to book a stay in Europe.  This makes no sense whatsoever!  Very disappointing and a waste of money.
