I know Bezos is selling plants wall pockets, the problem is how to grow them up. What we need, need permanent led lights? what's the rules to grow them strong inside a flat? Could we grow basil, sage, parsley and so on or just plants which are in the habit of dark places? Would they attract flying bugs?
No need bloody pinterest, just DYI your XP, go ahead with your suggestion!

@David6824 Go for it! Would be great to see your ongoing progress and what you learn works well and what doesn't. Most great inventions took a lot of trial and error to get perfected. If we never took a chance on trying something new, life would be pretty dull. Focusing on enjoying the process and learning experience, rather than being attached to the result is the best attitude, IMO. Then if things don't work out exactly the way we envisioned them, we still had fun trying.
@David6824 If you had a sunny window you could grow all kinds of things. But those little pockets in the picture you posted wouldn't work for a lot of plants, because most plants you eat have larger roots than that. For instance, parsley has a tap root that goes about 6 inches long. Fine for those little succulents or cactus- they're very slow-growing and only have a small root ball. But there's all sorts of systems you could built for larger plants and I'm sure you could Google search different methods. I have a big yard and a vegetable garden area so I've never had to research such things. Most vegetables and herbs do need a lot of light.
pockets are not small, each at least 25cm tall. say how beautiful could be an entrance for the guests showing a wall of 4x6 green pockets wall
not sunny windows in the public space apart the bathroom, but I think @Sarah977 a permanent led spot light in the hallway would do the job. What do you think? yes, no?
Most of those pockets are made of felt fabric so not being waterproof they need half circle pots with a straight side behind and are sold by HW od DIY retailers. Ppl in use with sewing machine could make the pockets theirself but even staples could be good. In here you could even grow weed for personal use, but I'd be more interested in to grow plants that regenerate the air in the flat and some herbs to use it in my everyday cooking.
Pothos are very forgiving and have a rep for being one of the best for helping with air quality, basil might work, as a herb Grow lights are full spectrum which plants need to thrive, I have never heard of full spectrum led lights which doesn't mean they don't exist. Be careful about moisture collecting behind the grow wall, mold & Sheetrock issues can be expensive.!
@Sally221 good advice, I'll staple a thin polystyrene layer on the wall, I'm keeping many from amazon. Thanks great suggestion!
@David6824 Plants in pots need drainage, otherwise you can get root rot. That's why plant pots have holes in the bottom for excess water to drain out, and if they are indoor plants, there is normally a saucer under the pot to catch the excess water. So if those pockets aren't waterproof, and it would be somewhat difficult to make them so, (even if you used waterproof fabric, water will leak out where the stitching is- the fabric would have to be fused together, like a plastic beach ball or a waterbed) I could foresee problems. It's a beautiful idea, I'm just not sure how you would make it workable, but like I said, I haven't researched this method.
hm... spaces without windows usually have a humidity problem. Plants don't help, like @Sally221 I would also worry about mold. Mold likes wet and dark places. Btw basil needs a lot of water.
I would opt for artificial plants, especially if you think to rent such a place on Airbnb. Our guests killed all our plants by overheating in winter or overcooling in summer, by keeping window blinds down etc...
Hi @Branka-and-Silvia0 ! I have an industrial 60cm fan in the hallway always on in summertime and I live here, hallway or bathroom no a/c or heaters, please no plastic, I understand it'd be a good looking fake green frame but it's gonna be a dust collector, I'd rather prefer to stick a city map instead. I want something alive and breathing, if possible recycling air and smell. Also a pocket of the 7 reserved for my kitty catnip would be great.
@Sarah977 and @Sally221 If this architect is building vertical wood buildings all over europe why shouldn't I be able to make just a vertical green wall in my flat? If it doesn't work I at least would lose say 100 euros or less in felt pockets, pots and saucers, 5W led 3000k color temp spotlight, soil and seed bags. Do you think should I give it a shot or not?
give it a try and let us know what light bulbs you used. People are growing weed in the basement so it is possible 🙂
If growing weed in a basement watch out for white fly!
