Guest detoxing in my space

Hi. I just had a nightmare guest who knowingly booked my no smoking space thinking I would just be alright w it. In four days he was arrested/ ticketed for public intoxication and smoking on high fire danger government lands, right outside the gate of my ranch. Great! And left the ranch gate open continually putting dogs, horse and livestock at risk.
His car broke down and he wanted to repair it in the driveway.  He was walking around bombed and barely  dressed wanting to chat w me in my studio while I worked. Ugh.
One dog hated him the other was kind and got drug poisoning for his efforts. Poor dog had diarrhea everywhere. My horse was about to attack the guest to protect me. Upsetting the whole fabric of peaceful life here.
Finally asked him to leave. Check out the 4 day trash! Plus cigarette butts. I have asked Airbnb to ban this guest but I was told there are many lifestyles. ???!!!!! Please be aware people are using Airbnb spaces to detox. Someone might die in your place or spin out on you. There is no screening nor guest removal for this. Sooooo wrong!

@Linda324 “There is no screening nor guest removal for this.”

No, it’s up to the host to screen. And the only thing Airbnb can do is cancel the booking (with no penalty to you) on the basis of guest breaking house rules, to aid in you removing them. Airbnb CS is notoriously poor. Best to keep the wolves from the door yourself, instead of relying on Airbnb. Screen all guests yourself.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. This person absolutely should be banned.  I hope your poor pup is ok.

@Linda324  I'm confused as to the "detoxing". If he was intoxicated and smoking, that seems the opposite of detoxing.

In any case, I'm sorry you had this experience, and I see you are an experienced host, with lots of appreciative guest reviews, so I guess this guy just misrepresented himself and his intentions when booking and slipped through your vetting procedures?

I think it's always best to get rid of a bad guest asap. If they are ignoring your rules, behaving in a scary or objectionable way, they aren't likely to change, so the "Sorry, but this isn't a good fit for either of us, so let's terminate this booking right now" should happen sooner rather than later.
