Guests’/ hosts’ rights to the room

Hi, recently we have encountered this situation. Our guests checked out during midnight to catch their flight however they missed the flight. The guests messaged us at 3AM to inform us that they missed their flight and asked if they can return to the accommodation and how to retrieve the keys. On top of that, they also requested if they can keep the accommodation for the rest of the afternoon before their repurchased flight.

We went back and requested the guests to alter their reservation to reserve another day to continue to use the accommodation. However they dodged our request and asked if they can return and retrieve the keys to the accommodation.

In situation like this, does the guest still hold rights to use/ access the accommodation after what technical to be a completed stay having checked out?

As a host, do I have the right to charge the guests for the extended hours before their new flight time?

Thank you

The guest has the right to use their accommodation until their check out time. @Mee-Yee0  but obviously you/your team were inconvenienced by being contacted at 3 am to retrieve the keys .

When the guest came to retrieve the keys then you could have ensured they extended the booking for the additional night.  Or made it clear they would need to check out by the original check out if they didn't pay to extend.
