I inserted the shortcodes into my scheduled messages but they don't work...eg the message is sent to guest saying
Dear guest first name......
Does anyone have advice on how to fix this. I have tried tge help desk but they just send me robot answers on how to set up.
Hi @Michele2229 😊,
Thank you for asking this in the community center!
I'm sorry it's not working for you, but let's try to fix this.
Are you referring to the 'smart lock codes'? If so, I'm sharing this article from our resource center with you 👉 How smart lock codes are shared with guests.
Let me know if this helps!
Warm regards, 🌻

Hi @Michele2229
I understand that your issue is with the automated replies that are supposed to insert the guest name. There should be people here who can help, can you perhaps send a screenshot showing your message where the code is inserted?
Hello @Michele2229
To use a short code, type the variable in brackets. Airbnb will automatically replace it with the appropriate guest information.
{{guest_first_name}}: Inserts the guest’s first name.
{{listing_name}}: Inserts the name of your listing.
Hope this helps
I also have this issue whenever I update a Welcome message in the app. Even if a short code is entered and saved, it just deletes the brackets and sends "guest first name" which looks super unprofessional. This has been an ongoing issue for all of my listings, so I decided to take out all personalizations. I've also found that Airbnb "Support" for hosts is remarkably frustrating and not helpful in almost any situation.
Hi @Michele2229 😊,
Have you found a solution?
Our hosts shared great advice with you. Did you get a chance to review it?
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Hey @Michele2229
Looks like you haven't been given the answer yet, and it's annoyingly simple 🙂
Don't use the app. If you use shortcodes in scheduled messages on the app, they don't work. This includes updating a scheduled message template via the app, even if you don't alter the shortcode.
Do use a browser. Set up your scheduled messages via a browser and everything will work perfectly. Good luck!

That’s odd as I set up all my scheduled messages in the app with no problem. Unless this is a bug that only recently occurred from an update and broke the functionality (it happens whenever a new release happens or if they have to fix something, sometimes something else breaks). If enough people report issues through feedback, the engineers will “look” into the issue.
It is true if you have issues in the app, the desktop offers full functionality (after a long phone call and feedback to Airbnb about issues I was told this, even though they had instructions on how to do things from the app, they had to consult other support to help out).
Still broken. You'd think it would be a priority to have it working rather than a leaving a broken feature in the app and ignoring the feedback...
This issue is still causing problems. When editing a saved message that includes inserts, the shortcodes disappear and revert to plain text. This makes the messages unreliable; for instance, a scheduled message that reads "Hi guest first name" appears unprofessional and sloppy. While I have found that using the desktop version serves as a workaround, it often requires additional adjustments to ensure functionality.
This issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible, ideally in the next update. Additionally, I have noticed a separate problem in the app: when I change text in a template message, the screen jumps to the end of the message while I am still trying to edit the beginning. This makes it difficult to see what I'm typing or deleting.
I appreciate your attention to these matters, and I hope they can be resolved promptly.
Thank you.
You can send feedback to Airbnb about fixing the problem with the App. In the meantime,
you'll have to use a laptop/desktop to create and edit your messages, as the shortcodes still don't work in the App apparently.
