Host won't issue refund for "additional services"

Hi all,

I booked an overnight stay-cation via Airbnb. A couple weeks before the date, the host sent me a request for an "additional services" payment with a note indicating it was to cover local Value-Added Tax and "additional guests". I paid the additional payment based on local laws and discussions I'd had with the host.

Two days before the date of the reservation, the host called me and said I'd need to pay another additional payment. I refused, and asked to simply cancel the reservation. He refused to cancel. I contacted Airbnb support. To their great credit, they immediately refunded me for the main booking payment. But they insisted that they cannot refund the "additional services" payment unless the host agrees to refund it.

The host already told me directly he would not refund that money.

Is there anything I can do to get this money refunded via Airbnb? Or is my best bet to try to dispute the charge via my credit card provider?

@Adam2480 Definitely dispute the charge with your card provider. I do hope the host is removed from the platform for their poor behaviour though.
