In my opinion, you are correct. Airbnb is an online booking platform. Both guests and hosts agree to terms of service, which include guidelines on appropriate behavior towards one another, and our property. We agree to these things when we sign up to use the platform as guests, and as hosts. I've read a lot of agreements in my days, and I find that these are in some rather straightforward, plain language.

@Rosa3399 has good questions. The answers are in the terms of service, plus the help sections with more references to the various answers she seeks. For un-opinionated information, that's where I believe she should start.

The bottom line, imho, is that it is everyone's commitment and integrity that makes this work so well.

@Rosa3399 realistically Airbnb can/does very little. The vast majority go guests, like people, are law abiding. The remainder, whilst small in number, can be very damaging but it is down to the hosts to protect themselves I am afraid.

@Rosa3399  The first question that comes to mind is - who is asking this very philosophical question?.

I get the impression it is someone looking for guarantees against "property damage, personal safety, or fraudulent activities". A tall order being asked from  a booking agency that has no direct control with the every-day hosting affairs of the 6+million hosts that lists with them. And charges the host a mere 3%.

Hello @Rosa3399,

Adding to what @Kitty-and-Creek0  mentioned, I have come across an article that explains how Airbnb works to ensure the safety of sharing your place. It contains valuable information for both guests and hosts. Please find the article >here<
