Hi everyone, I booked an apartment in Florence, Italy for 2 adults and 1 kid who will be 7 year old at the time of checkout. Today, I messaged my host to get some information about local transport options. She helped me with my query and also informed me that I got charged Euro 30 for city tax, but as per local laws minors below the age of 12 don’t have to pay the city tax. She further added that I should contact Airbnb support and ask for a refund, so I did the same and got a reply from support that:
“You were charged correctly for the City tax. As per Florence local laws, children’s are not exempted from the city tax. He/she further added that host knowledge about taxes might not be up to date”
Now the funny part is that he/she shared a website page about the city tax rules and regulations. I don’t understand Italian, so I translated the website page from Italian to English using Google Translate tool and I found that as per that page kids upto the age of 12 are indeed exempted from this tax.
I conveyed this message to their support and now they forwarded my query to some other staff member and closed the existing ticket. Let’s see what happens next. What you guys think? Any local host here who can comment on this?
