Hi everyone!
I have a question regarding guest identification in Italy. A guest sent me a U.S. Passport Card instead of the regular passport book (the one with pages).
As many of you know, in Italy we must register guest details with the local authorities (Alloggiati Web), and I want to make sure I do this correctly.
Does anyone know if the U.S. Passport Card is acceptable for registration in Italy, or is the regular passport book required?
Thank you so much!
Francesco
You would need to check with whoever regulates the requirements in your country for guests to provide photo ID @Francesco2073
We have the very same requirement in Spain, and it is valid ID here. That doesn't mean it's valid in Italy, but I suspect the regulations are similar.
Yes, better to check with your local authorities.
@Francesco2073 ciao, an American traveler wishing to enter Italy has to show his passport book at the border. You can take the following data from the passport card:
first name(s) as on the document
last name
date and place of birth
sex
citizenship
place of residence
but for Alloggiatiweb you need also
kind of document
number of document
place of issue
and you’ll find these data only on the passport book required to enter in Italy.
There is no need to ask for a photo ID in advance because you must check the document in person (de visu) at check-in.
Here is what the internet says:
"...you cannot enter Italy with a US passport card; a valid US passport book is required for all international air travel to Italy. The passport card is only valid for land and sea travel between the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean."
"While your passport book is required for entry, some travelers consider carrying the passport card as a backup ID for use within Italy, although it is not the same as your official entry document."
U.S. Passport Card is a valid government ID, but it’s not a full substitute for a passport book.
They do not have the same number.
Just let your guests know that government regulations require guest registration, and international travelers must present their passport book.
