Issues with Refund

Issues with Refund

Hello,

I am seeking advice on a refund issue I’ve been facing. I canceled a booking on December 18, 2024, nearly a month before the scheduled stay. I received a notification that the refund had been processed, with instructions to wait for 15 days and then contact my bank if the refund wasn’t received. After 20 days, I contacted my bank, and they confirmed that no money had been credited.

I reached out to Airbnb support, and they informed me that there was a glitch, and the payment hadn’t gone through. They reinitiated the payment on January 8, 2025, and advised me to follow up after five days. It’s been almost two weeks since then, and I still haven’t received my refund.

Every time I contact support, I’m told the issue has been escalated, and the accounts team will reach out to me. However, it’s been four days, and no one has reached out, nor have I received my refund.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to proceed or whom I can escalate this issue to, to get my money back. Thank you in advance for your help.

Lots of posts here about refund issues. If you cancel a stay, Airbnb says they will refund back to the original payment method. All the posts I have been reading were centered arount a bank account that had been closed. Not sure that is the issue with your bank. The ones that finally resolved the issue had to setup a PayPal account and have the funds sent there instead. Not sure if PayPal is an option in your country?

I booked a reservation for medical reasons and for medical reasons I had to cancel over a week before and less than 36 hours after booking my reservations.  I did purchase travel insurance but Generali (the insurance company Airbnb uses) denied my refund request stating that only "Vacation trips" were refundable but in the next sentence they stated that business trips are included.  Airbnb did process a 45% refund but not the full amount that I had paid.  The copy of my Generali policy did not show any stipulation of medical travel was not covered.  A total SCAM as I am out the insurance fee (which is understandable) but, NO refund of my booking.  This "statement" regarding medical trips could not be found on my "policy".
