I have had 3 properties on AirBnb for almost 4 years now and have had my fair share of bad guests - mostly related to young partiers but the last rental of my small house was used as a drug den. 😞
i reported the last one to AirBnB so they know the scenario and I think I may have another situation that checked in today - but I may be just paranoid now?
I’ve seen the situation so often now that I see red flags.
Usually - 2-3 young people get dropped off in a taxi for check-in. (We can see the driveway from our exterior camera.)
They usually have a few Walmart bags with them and not much else. The booking is exactly one week and the booking guest is super friendly with communication.
when we finally get in at check-out time, they leave behind tons of clothing, food and a HUGE mess! They rarely leave the place for the entire stay.
Today, a gentleman asked to book our house for 6 nights. It was for one person but he mentioned that it would be him and his fiancé.
His profile has 24 reviews and are mostly positive (except notes on excessive garbage a couple of times and bringing pets when not allowed)
I reminded him of our house rules and decided to give him a chance and accepted the booking.
Next question he NOW asks - is it a sofa bed in the second bedroom.
On a hunch, I ask him to confirm the number of guests. He admits that there will be one more girl staying but she is from his fiancé’s family.
I've already accepted the booking so I sent in my cleaner and checked my camera after check-in time to see if he arrived yet.
… and a taxi was in the driveway!
One fairly young girl (20?) was trying to get the key from the lockbox and after she got the door open she brought in a big blue bag (from Walmart?) and two suitcases - and then he drove off.
i checked again a short while ago and no car in the driveway. No way to tell if anyone else ever showed.
and I just received a request from him to extend his stay until the end of the year.
am I being paranoid? I will ask our neighbour in the morning to keep an eye on things but my Spidey Senses are telling me that I shouldn’t accept the request to extend.
Thoughts?
