Reclining furniture

Hello, fellow hosts,

Do any of you provide a reclining couch, chair, etc.?

My instinct is not to - it would be just another mechanical item that might malfunction.

My biggest fear would be that some piece of furniture gets stuck in the reclining position and can’t be closed - but I don’t know if this ever actually happens.

Well @Pat271 , you are in the furniture making capital of the company.  You probably have great selections to choose from or have customized builds.

Don't just believe what I say, check the Airbnb Help Center

@Debra300   Good point there. The home's occupancy limits, and the way you'd prefer for guests to use the space, are important considerations for the seating. If you cater mostly to solo travelers and couples, coziness is everything, so setting the scene for people to quietly veg out makes sense.

When I rent an Entire Home, it's always in a group of 3 to 6 adults, so it is a social gathering in that sense, and I want it to be more suitable for sociability than for staring at a TV. Any features that can help adapt the main living area to our group activities without moving furniture around is a big plus, as is having enough space to move through a room despite the relative compactness of old European cottages. But once again, my friends and I aren't everyone's target market - some hosts prefer families with kids, or senior citizens, or rich people or whatever, so they've gotta furnish accordingly.

@Anonymous had to laugh. Rich people are people too. Arent they ?

@Pat271   Another non mechanical recliner to consider might be the Ekornes Stressless Recliner with footstool.  We have one in our own home which is about 12 years old now and still looks and works like new.  I think might husband would have a nervous breakdown if I got rid of it as he claims it is the most comfortable chair he has ever had.  It is also very quick and easy to clean.

@Kate867  I have had Ekornes Stressless Recliners with the footstool, and absolutely love them. I would get one in a heartbeat today if I could find one at a reasonable cost. Putting a 2K chair in a rental probably isn’t very practical, although Ekornes furniture in general is pretty durable.

@Pat271   I actually was looking at getting a second one myself, and yes they are expensive… however I did also look on Ebay and found quite a few available at extremely reasonable prices.  You might find spending a few minutes looking there worth the effort

@Kate867 What usually trips me up on EBay is the delivery charge (hundreds of dollars), unless I can find something local.

Check out Lazy Boy Eldorado manual recliner. We have two in our premium rental. They are amazingly comfortable and very few places for lost times and crumb.  Expensive and it took me a while to get past the wooden arms getting scratched and dented (now character). Worth the money for a high-end rental.

@Normen0  Thanks for the recommendation! One can usually evaluate furniture quality by what shape it is in when being sold used. I consider this even when buying new furniture. So many couches and chairs are misshapen, sagging, threadbare, etc., even if only a year or two old. I’ve noticed, though, that as a rule, La-Z-Boy items being sold look like they have held up up very well. It seems to be one of the best brands for durability.

@Pat271  So true!  I believe in buying solid good quality used furniture instead of some of the new stuff for about the same price as used because you will be replacing it much sooner!
We had our own personal reclining lazy boy sofa that we got rid of because I was dogsitting and one of the dog peed on it and every other dog peed on it no matter how much I cleaned it.  Replaced it with a couple of recliners and and then another off brand custom reclining couch. I could not get comfortable. Just got my replacement reclining Lazy Boy sofa. Will never buy anything else again. Worth every penny!!

@Pat271

We have an excellent couch and a leather Stressless recliner - with footstool - n the guest suite. Basically the exact same setup we have in our living room. We also have other seating arrangements in the space.
