Requesfs to see place before booking?

I may be too cynical but my first guest communication is a request to see the place before booking. Is this common?

Hi @Betty644  - no, this is not a common idea nor is it allowed by AIRBNB. See: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/47

However, requests like this do indeed come up. In your case, it may be that you are targeted as a new listing perhaps. It is dangerous for a whole bunch of reasons, including what is already mentioned.

In our case, we've had guests ask because we think they wish to host some sort of party/wedding type ceremony here. Which we aren't permitted for.

You can always ask them what they need to see more of and that you can provide more detail or perhaps additional photos. But a tour should never be made available.

You can also let them know that this isn't allowed as per AIRBNB rules. I go as far as let the guest know that the only answer I can give is "no" as AIRBNB also read these messages, so going against policy is a bad idea (for both sides).

Hi @Betty644

I don’t allow potential guests to view the property before booking. All the photos accurately represent the space, and I encourage guests to review the full listing details and read our reviews for transparency.

In my experience, requests for viewings are often an attempt to move the booking off the Airbnb platform. Booking outside Airbnb means you won’t be protected by Airbnb’s policies, payment security, or support in case any issues arise. For everyone’s safety and protection, all reservations must be completed directly through the platform.

Thanks - it was a red flag for me as well - when I rented annually, I always required an application prior to viewing for safety.
