Rule of 6 uk

 Hi All

I have reservations for 6+ in Wales during October.  What are others doing about this in a similar situation?

I don’t seem to be able to get hold of Airbnb support at all.  It just says unless the booking starts within 72 hours you should try later!

Any suggestions?

I see quite a few of you have managed to get help from Airbnb.

Many thanks

Yes, I feel very much the same way and the enquiries I am getting do not bode well for the state of the world!

Of the post 14th March enquiries and booking requests I have received, none of them asked questions in relation to COVID-19 cleaning or safety measures, who else they would be living with (I have three guest rooms in my own home) or Government restrictions, except:

Two recent ones. One was the girl above who simply asked me if I was accepting out of town visitors during COVID but seemed to have zero conception that she would be subject to a two week quarantine. The other is a guest who has told me numerous times she is going to book and then doesn't (this has been going on for weeks) but then yesterday asked me if she could even come due to the rule of 6. I explained to her that this was less relevant than the fact that she would probably have to quarantine and couldn't do that at my shared listing. Her response was along the lines of, "Oh yeah, right. I might have to quarantine..."

How have people not considered any of this??!

It is for sure a lot of potential (mainly young) guests do not even consider the pandemic rules when preparing their trip, so now we as hosts are facing a new task:  to educate them on this.

Yes, for sure, I am finding this to be true. Most (if not all) the enquiries are coming from young guests...

I do wonder sometimes if I also as a young person would have reacted differently to this current situation? I am not sure. I like to remember myself as being quite sensible when I was young and I certainly travelled a lot, but then again I did also put myself into some potentially dangerous situations. I look back now and say, "What was I thinking???!!"

Hi everyone,

@Helen3 thanks for the tag. It seems the new government rules are clear as ever 😄

I don't have any new info other than what you should have received in a recent email (this went out on September 14th I believe). The restrictions seem to limit groups of six, both indoors and outdoors, so any groups larger than this in a single listing may not be allowed, although it does make an exemption for households and/or support bubbles larger than this (e.g. a family of seven who all reside at the same address).

Within this group of six, there is no mention of a limit on the number of households as far as I can see, so this rule only seems to affect groups larger than this.

If you have a booking which you're unsure on then my recommendation would be to check in with the guests to find out their details (number of households etc) and then contact Support if you need to cancel. If it's outside of the 72hr limit then you can send a message rather than calling.

I hope this helps to clarify 😊
