Simple math host fees

It appears now all fees are charge to the host. For instance we used to pay 3 % host fee. 

100 x night and 150 cleaning fee on a 3 nights reservation.

450 - 3% fee = $436.50 earnings

With the new fee is a win win for Airbnb.

450 - 15.5% fee = $380.25

How much are we really making? Aitbnb doesnt contribute with the maintanance and wear and tear of our properties. Basically we are working and exposing our homes so that Airbnb can profit from us.

Those of us that still have a mortgage on our properties are screw because however you put it we are making 12.5% less than before.

This is a ridiculous amount for us the host to pay in fees.

If we increase the rate per night to get similar or close revenue Airbnb benefits even more now the get 15.5% in whatever we increase our rates. How much are our guests willing to pay?

Me (from a guest point) I would rather go to a hotel.

If Airbnb doesnt do anything to correct this madness, is only a matter of time. A lot of us will leave the platform.

I have been a host for a few years now and I used to like Airbnb and it was my only go to platform as I felt confident about it, but now, NOT ANYMORE!

@Nathalie2888 What absolute tosh. You ignore the fact that the guest used to be charged between 14 and 16% so you can put your fees up by this amount without the guest even noticing. Then when you are charged 15.5% there will be no loss to you or the guest.

@Mike-And-Jane0 That is actually not true and Nathalie2888 is correct. The host will have to increase the base price of any rental property by approximately 15% based on my calculations (these calculations only take Airbnb fees into account. This number may actually be higher when taxes are included). So while our based price used to display as $100, for example, now it will have to display $115 or more. I assure you that any returning guest will notice a $15 increase per every $100 you charge. I know I would.

Yes your price may need to be 115 (slightly less actually) not the 100 it used to be  BUT The guest will now pay 115 rather than the 100+14-16% - lets say 115 they used to pay.

I assure you a returning guest will not give two hoots whether they pay 115 or 115 - THEY ARE THE SAME

With all due respect you are failing to account for the taxes that will also increase on the guest side because of the base price increase, which in my area comes to an additional 12% (approximately) on top of Airbnb fees. All in all, Airbnb is the only entity who benefits in this situation. Not the guest and not the host. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if hosts start looking elsewhere for a reliable reasonably priced booking platform. I know I am.

I can increase my rate if course just like all of us... and i giess that makes only sense for airbnb that conveniently will still make 15.5% on whatever we increase it.... then how much is the guest willing to pay???

Principal is that now the host pays the guest fee.... we the host are the most affected... simple math my friend
