My house has 3 exterior doors- front porch door, side porch door, and back door. I was planning on putting a keypad on the back door which is the door closest to where they will be parking. What should I do about the other 2 exterior doors? I don't want to have to deal with keys but think that 3 keypads is going to be an inconvenience to maintain. What do you recommend?
@Rachel1861 Not sure what type of keypad you're thinking of, but to my mind, maintenance of any keypad set up is going to be far less hassle than that of dealing with keyed locks and all the associated possible headaches.
Guests really only need one door to enter in/out. The other doors act as emergency exits/fire escapes. Provide check-in directions to the back door and give guests their own personalized code. Let them know they can use the other doors but they should remain locked if the guest is out and about. Or put a plant or decorative piece in front of the door to signal that it should not be used.
I have two spaces which each have two entry/exit points. I have a keypad on the front door and have never thought about the other doors. No one has ever questioned it.
Perfect! That is what I was hoping. Thanks for your input!
3 doors = 3x more chance guests will forget to close and lock them = 3x more chance they will lose the key . Just lock them , take a key and put a plant in front of them
Exactly what I was thinking! Thank you for your advice.
@Rachel1861 You can't lock a door and take away the key or block the door with plants if this will make the house dangerous if there is a fire. How many exits are required by your local fire safety codes?
