Unscrupulous Potential Host

We were looking at a long-term rental (~ 5 months) and found a place that seemed ideal, so we reserved it. Host had typical window to respond, and about 24 hours later we were notified that the rental was no longer available. Disappointing, but believable. About a week later, the rental is available again but with a monthly price that is increased by $200. Feels like the host is just trying to squeeze an extra $1000 out of us. Does this type of behavior violate any official guidelines, or is it just an annoying quirk of the business model?

@Matthew2339 Actually it is just stupid behaviour by the host. As long as you do not book with him he will lose far more than the extra $1000 he thought he would get away with. PLEASE book elsewhere to teach the host a lesson.
