Extra cleaning charge for use of BBQ

Extra cleaning charge for use of BBQ

Hello!

I was wondering if there is anyway of charging a extra cleaning fee if the BBQ is left a mess? We've been advised by our cleaner that they charge a extra €25 to clean the outdoor BBQ if it's left in a mess, but unsure the best way to administer this?

Has anyone had anything similar/any advice?

Thanks,

Sue

Hi @Sue2343 you can use Airbnb's resolution center. You can request an extra cleaning fee and upload a photo of the BBQ. Make sure to take clear, date-stamped photographs of the BBQ or the area that was left dirty. This will be crucial for providing evidence to Airbnb.

After you submit your payment request, Airbnb will notify the guest. The guest will have a period (usually 72 hours) to respond. They can either accept and pay the fee, or they can decline or not respond.

If the guest declines or does not respond, you have the option to involve Airbnb. They will review the case, look at the evidence provided, and make a decision. Airbnb’s decision is usually final.

You can also contact your guest about this. Send them a message through the Airbnb platform explaining the situation and the extra cleaning required. Politely request if they would be willing to cover the additional cleaning costs.  Hope this helps! 🙂

@Sue2343   Our cleaning fee and agreement with our housekeeper and groundskeeper covers all cleaning and maintenance of the property.  The occasional minor extra charge due to an untidy guest is the cost of doing business.  If your guests use the grill regularly, you could up your cleaning charge by a few dollars to account for the rare extra fee.

Otherwise, you can charge via the resolution center as @Alicia753  said.

Hello @Sue2343,

I just came across your post and wanted to check if you have had the opportunity to read our lovely hosts' advice. Have you considered contacting the resolution center as they suggested?

Keep us posted.

Be aware that the guest will get your request BEFORE writing their review of your place and giving it a rating. We didn't know this (AirBnb should make that clear on the request page!) and the whole thing brought our rating down and a bad review that doesn't present the reason for the charges truthfully.

We're asking for a mere $50, and that obviously wasn't worth it. I would have never done it if I had known OUR cost for this. Possibly less bookings, and that costs us a lot more than that extra cleaning fee.
