I'm sure ALL hosts are feeling the impact of the recent cancellations due to the corona virus. I was extremely shocked to see Airbnb has taken the liberty to change cancelation policies and giving every guest a full refund! I've had 4 cancelations from guests coming from other U.S. states that were refunded fully today alone!! That's a bunch of BS!! Airbnb doesn't give a **bleep** about it's hosts who have rents and bills to pay!! They got backlash from guests and decided to **bleep** the hosts so they look better in the public eye!! Hey Airbnb you wouldn't exist without us!!!! How is it fair that we have to carry this heavy financial burden that you decided to suddenly throw on us?! As hosts we need to come together and hold Airbnb responsible for this!! They made a detrimental change to our cancelation policy that has the ability to bankrupt us, kill our credit and leave us in an insane amount of debt!!! All this without any sort of warning and to benefit their own company!! A company that would NOT EXIST WITHOUT US!!!! I say let's unlist everything and move it over to another platform!! Any responses, feedback and ideas is greatly appreciated. We as hosts have to come together to get through this mess and hold Airbnb responsible!!! Class action lawsuit is a good starting point.
Disgusted by this policy. Airbnb Superhost for 6 years continuously. It's my livelihood. How is this fair. It's totally unfair.
I have called AND I have used online support – and in both instances Airbnb staff has refused to answer all my questions – and insist on repeating circular platitudes and outright doublespeak, and only answer the questions they wish I had asked.
MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: Why has Airbnb decided to throw hosts under the bus?
SECOND QUESTION: Why can’t we talk to people above customer support? Does it mean that Greg Greely, President doesn’t really care at all about what hosts think – and he really just prefers to send out imperious mass mailings claiming ERRONEOUSLY that Airbnb is trying to support hosts when that is clearly not the case.
THIRD QUESTION: Why does the “Feedback” form say that Airbnb is actually not going to respond? How arrogant.
Hosts, please tell Airbnb that this is completely unacceptable.
The changes to the cancellation policy/extenuating circumstances are completely ridiculous. I have a strict cancellation policy. The pandemic is not my fault, but Airbnb is taking the position that it is.
Change the extenuating circumstances policy back. Airbnb made it. Airbnb can change it.
People can and will cancel both in general and during the pandemic. There is nothing wrong with that; it’s a reality. There was an equitable tier of three cancelation options to deal with that. And then Airbnb changed them to be totally unfair to hosts.
I am ready to receive guests. It is not my fault they can’t come. I did not force them to select a place with a strict cancellation policy.
I have a strict cancellation policy because I depend on this income. Airbnb is saying: we don’t really care about that. Airbnb saying that they are more concerned about my health than my economic situation is completely PATERNALISTIC and something I can do for myself, thank you. The governor and the mayor of New York have not closed the city, and hotels are open, although large places of public assembly are closed. My apartment is not a large place of public assembly and guests are welcome here.
Why has Airbnb broken the original terms that I was agreeing to when having guests in my room?
Why does Airbnb not care about taking my income away?
Why does Airbnb not care about my community and the communities of other hosts -- particularly when those communities need support the most? Airbnb has decided to appropriate images and stories of our neighborhoods sand cities for their lovely expensive marketing materials, but has decided to ignore those same communities when they are having financial difficulties. Airbnb can sure talk the talk…
Penultimately, as a senior, a s a LGBTQ person, as an urban resident, and as someone on a severely reduced income I am sure that this change is going to affect populations like those most. Why is Airbnb not concerned about the inequity of its policies?
Finally, what I the address of the Airbnb New York office? As the vast majority of my reservations have canceled and no new ones are being made, I may need to move there as soon as April 1.
Clearly Airbnb hosts are not being heard -- and obviously we are not getting our message across.
All valid questions that need answers!! I'm curious what they plan to do to help hosts..https://www.businessinsider.com/airbnb-cancel-reservations-refund-coronavirus-2020-3
We should start a forum outside of the Airbnb community. Perhaps a Facebook group? We can create a safe zone for ALL hosts to get together and discuss our options. I'm sure there are a lot of us..
I would be very honored if you @Allen137 would lead the way. You are very well spoken and would be a great representation of a vast majority of many.
Yes please!!
Shey5, Thanks so much for your compliment. I tried to write it clearly so others could fully appreciate -- and repast my arguments. That being said, I may be an OK writer...but not much of an "online" "digital" leader, and I do not even use Facebook.
I support your idea though and would definitely participate if someone else was leading the brigade!

FYI -- I saw another post where they said Brian Chesky's email was brian.chesky AT airbnb.com
I am trying to copy everything about and take screen shots of my canceled and upcoming reservations, because I see they delete the dollar amounts when they cancel, and I want to have some screenshots before they delete any other data.

This is outrageous. I was set to refund a couple of upcoming guests until more cancellations started to roll in and I realized that this is precisely why cancellation policies exist. To spread the risk... The hosts set the cancellation policies, not Airbnb. Airbnb has minimal legal exposure vis a vis the guests, and had no business making that decision for us. The hosts have the bulk of the financial exposure, not Airbnb. It was so easy for them to ** bleep ** the little guys when all they had to loose is a small booking fee. Airbnb did you even think of all the cancellations we are facing in the next few months when our guests start losing their jobs? Will those be called force majeure? Are you going to refund these to? This is my only retirement income. There is going to be hell to pay Airbnb!
Someone on one of these posts was suggesting we set up a page elsewhere. A forum just for Hosts that is NOT on the Airbnb platform. I have just set up a FB page for this purpose. I has private settings so you only join if you prove you are an Airbnb Host and can prove you are who you say you are. You can try it out and see how it goes. There will be no "levels" --do you even care? https://www.facebook.com/groups/861430217655400/
Great Idea!!!! We should contact other hosts directly as well and let them know to join. We are all in this together!! If enough of us say goodbye to Airbnb and list elsewhere Airbnb will feel the impact!
