Interesting to see that some board members who haven't posted here since 2017 are suddenly posting multiple times. The cynic in me suggests that Airbnb have asked them to do so to find out what is going on in Airbnb land.
Perhaps they should have just invited some of the more prolific posters on the community centre to be on the advisory board!
Ok @Anonymous, you've got me now. 😀 What were the conditions attached and who among the CC regulars was nominated?
.
I can tell You that I was not nomimated. They didn't even contact me, I think they thought that I'd be too expensive. Well, You get what You pay for. 😂
this honestly sounds like the way I acted when I didn't make my highschool basketball team. But that was over 30 years ago
There is one key quality that a member should not have and that's Ego.
I'm appalled by all of this. So much experience here. There is so much I want to learn and discuss with all of you. But so far this feels like a high school soap opera.
@Bez8 Nothing is stopping you from discussing hosting or Airbnb topics. There are plenty of threads of that nature here.
And since you are actually new here, perhaps you might wait until you read and participate more to start judging other long time posters.
Humor and sarcasm have a place in these forums, too. It doesn't all have to be serious and businesslike.
You seem to resent the rapport that long time participants here have.
Hello as someone who has been appointed to represent our interests @Bez8 , please don't patronise your fellow hosts with comments such as;
"this honestly sounds like the way I acted when I didn't make my highschool basketball team' ( if you had spent a little time familiarising yourself with the forum you would have known that @Ute was being sardonic in her reply to you)
'but so far this feels like a high school opera'
'im (sp) telling you that I’m here to help you. But I feel like we’re not even speaking the same language. '
Of course hosts are going to have some concerns about how this advisory board works as with many things Airbnb has done, it has been carried out behind closed doors.
And now one of your fellow advisory board members tell us in another post that your group have met and decided on a plan and direction in terms of your remit (without asking wider hosts for any input).
You are right in that there feels like a disconnect between the advisory board and the wider host community.
Perhaps the advisory board could ask Airbnb to provide them with some training around interacting with stakeholders on social media and online discussion forums?
And if you want to interact with the forum please do, hundreds of hosts and guests post every day with queries. It would be good to see advisory board members being proactive on these boards in terms of helping answer some of these issues. It would be a great way of you having your finger on the pulse of everyday issues affecting hosts.
@Helen3 Any training also needs to ensure HABM's actually understand the Airbnb rules. There is another thread where one is misleading hosts with wrong information!
Thank you for the feedback. I actually answered @Sharon1014 's question regarding the HAB. Check out that post and it went over a lot of topics
Humor sometimes gets lost in translation. Especially when I already had my guard up due to previous threads and discussions.
I'm usually all for a cheeky remark and always laugh at anything and everything.
This HAB is brand new and it will continue to evolve and get better with host input. We are currently just putting the basics in place.
It's all written with a pencil not a permanent marker.
I moderate several Facebook groups and have actually taken the Facebook group training. Like I mentioned before I should have taken most of the comments a bit more lightly. I will work on that.
It's hard to be the new kid on the block (in CC)
I'm sure you can relate to that in some shape or form. I really do appreciate your feedback and will personally work on it. It's the only way I can improve 🤗
It sounds like your FB group training didn't teach you one of the golden rules of being involved in online groups; take the time to understand the personality of the groups you are involved in and read lots of posts and responses before you start to take an active part as a group member.
Particularly when you are someone who is meant to be representing members of the group you belong to @Bez8
Comments such as calling one of your advisory board a 'God' in terms of his involvement in this community, doesn't do much for your credibility.
hahaha
That's the beauty of the internet isn't it?
we're storytelling animals and language itself is subjective.
I called Till a god - To me that represents an elder with wealth of experience. Till is by far the most active CC member on our board.
It was also a joke and trying to lighten the mood.
That's all I meant by that. Nothing literal or physical. Just words. But words are powerful and I will make sure to be more self aware in the future.
I'm new and not perfect. I will make mistakes and I will always try to improve.
I appreciate your last paragraph suggesting HAB members might participate on the boards as a way to interact with our CC. I think that's a great idea . Help is needed there @Helen3
.
I think „deadpan“ in Germany we would call „trockener Humor“ = dry humor.
I also have a question. Which one of the 2 is correct:
You are comparing a human being with god
You are comparing a human being to god
@Ute42 My question was deadpan...!
But I couldn't resist an online German-English dictionary - & I came to the conclusion that 'trocken' nails it! In context.
- Compare with v too?
I would have said 'with'. Think I might have been told off in my youth for 'to' as sloppy English.
I googled, and found 'with' was common 100 years ago, but 'to' is more used today.... Explains my 'with' usage!!!!
But Shakespeare did write 'Shall I compare thee TO a summer's day?' - So we've gone full circle!
