Hello, I live part time between Mex and he the US, have dual citizenship. I have my house in Merida, Mexico renting through Airbnb when I am not there. I already pay all the mexican taxes. Not sure why I got though a 1099-K tax form? Do I still need to report that airbnb income to the IRS (payed to my mexican accounts) even though I already payed taxes in Mexico? How will that affect my US tax report?
Thanks!!
Emiilio
@Emilio450 Talk to an accountant who is familiar with how to report the income and the paid taxes from other countries. As to the 1099-K that AirBnB sent you -- that income has already been reported to the IRS as having been earned by you. You now have to jump through the hoops of showing that the taxes have been paid to Mexico.
Thanks! Yes, I was able to finally get an accountant, and she was able to get a "tax credit" (not sure what the form number is) but yes there is an agreement between the US and Mex so double taxation is avoided, just need to submit that specific form when you do your taxes in the US.
